Morning everyone! Today I have a guest post from an awesome chica who has been using The Slim Life. I asked her to write a review about her experience so far. Here’s Leah!
I want to note that while Bess asked me for a review of my experience with The Slim Life, I was in no way compensated for this post. I wrote the review so other people can see how amazing The Slim Life is and be encouraged to start the program!
I stumbled upon Bess’s blog a few months ago and instantly fell in love. Although I didn’t play sports in college, I have always been very active and was inspired by the way Bess approached her healthy lifestyle. After I graduated last year, I had a harder time maintaining a healthy workout and eating routine. The stubborn pounds I gained throughout college did not want to budge! I would spend 45 minutes on the elliptical or treadmill with sporadic arm or ab exercises. I was frustrated my body was not changing and did not know what to do. That’s where I was when I started reading Bess’s blog.
“The Slim Life” was attractive because it included both nutrition and workout sections. I started the 15-week slim down plan right away and followed a combination of the “Get Slim” and “Stay Slim” eating plan. Bess includes so many delicious and easy recipes (I am a huge fan of protein pancakes now!) and I had fun making new snacks and meals (the smoothie recipes are SO GOOD). In the past when I’ve tried to lose weight I have counted calories and it’s been a pain! I’ve also felt that those types of diets were very restricted and left me feeling hungry and weak. Bess focuses more on the types and kinds of nutrients your body needs (fats, complex carbs, and proteins). By learning to balance out my meals using her tips, I always felt satisfied and energized. It was easy to build in treats (I have a huge sweet tooth!) and I never felt guilty because I knew it was easy to get right back on track. Actually, by eating “clean”, my body craved sugary and fatty foods a lot less (with the exception of ice cream…). And the nutrition support didn’t stop with the “Slim Life”. Bess sent out “The Fat Loss Guide” when I was about 10 weeks into the program which gave some great tips for what to eat and when to eat after workout for maximum fat loss.
The workouts were also easy to follow and I could do them all at home. Yep that means I didn’t even need to go to the gym which saved me money and time! The workouts only required a pair of hand weights (I bought a set of 8 lbs). At first I was skeptical because some days were just lifting workouts or rest/stretching days. Before “The Slim Life”, I thought you always needed cardio to lose weight. I was wrong! Those days were probably the most important and some of the weight workouts had me sweating harder than the cardio exercises. I loved how the workouts would change each week so they never felt repetitive. Most of the time I would do the workouts after work right before dinner. The days I did do them in the morning left me feeling energized all day!
Let me start off by saying I strongly encourage people to take ‘before’ pictures before starting a new workout and eating plan. That is my biggest regret! I had to go digging through old photos. Over the course of 15 weeks I lost about 8 pounds and dropped from a size 6 to a 4 (sometimes even a 2!). I’ve lost weight in the past but it’s never felt like this…I didn’t feel deprived or starved. Now I feel very healthy, toned, and strong.
Overall, Bess and the “Slim Life Guide” have taught me how to balance my life while staying fit. I am more in tune with my body and don’t feel guilty when I can’t workout or eat something that isn’t healthy. I’ve tried so many workouts and diets in the past, but Bess’s approach is refreshing, positive, and successful! I strongly encourage people to read and follow “The Slim Life”. It was the best investment in myself I have made in a while :)
