Diet-To-Go Review

by Bess on February 26, 2013

As a FitFluential Ambassador, last week I received a big diet meal delivery shipment of food to try out from Diet-to-Go.  Obviously I was pretty excited about this for multiple reasons…a 3 day healthy food supply being sent to me?  Yes please.  The thing was, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the food.  How big would the servings be and would it taste okay?  They sent breakfast, lunch, and dinner so I was hopeful the food was going to be delicious.  I was pleasantly surprised when the diet meal delivery shipment came and it was full of such awesome meals.

Below you’ll see, in order, the meals I was sent and then I’ll do a review of each.

I was a little worried that this meal might be spicy when it read “wasabi” but I’m glad it wasn’t!  I’m not good with spicy things and I really enjoyed this meal.

This was one of my favorite meals, if not THE favorite of the ones I was sent.  I loved the quiche so much!  It kept me full well until lunch and had my coworkers sticking their heads in my office to see what smelled so good.  I said sorry…only for me :)

This was a yummy lunch and the lightest options of what I was sent.  It was surprisingly filling for soup and a cheese stick, but I really liked it.  Had a kick of spice to it but nothing I couldn’t handle.

I loved the veggies in this meal!! However, I don’t eat veal.  In fact, this was the first time I’ve ever had it.  I eat meat but usually I don’t eat veal.  It tasted good enough to eat but I can’t be a good judge of veal since I’ve got nothing to compare it to.  I liked the sauce on top at least!

Another great breakfast!

This was another one of my favorites despite the fact it was also the spiciest meal.  The salmon was delicious.

A very tasty meal.  A little high in calories and fat for my liking, but after a hard workout it was pretty yummy.

Breakfasts were 3-for-3.  Another egg breakfast and another hit in my opinion.

And the last meal of the bunch…

This was the meal that I ate the artichoke salad and one of the wings to test out, but wings aren’t really my thing.  This meal was a bit high in calories for me and despite the fact I’m not a big wings fan, the flavoring was great and I enjoyed the artichoke salad.

You’re probably wondering why the meals I got are “diet” but were higher in calories and fat.  It’s because I was sent the “low-carb” meal option.  Therefore I was sent higher protein foods to meet the low-carb requirement, and often that means higher in fat as well.  You can see the other meal plan options here.

The biggest negative I felt about the meals was that they were very high in sodium.  The biggest positive was that I had fresh meals set for each day that were easily microwaveable in 2-3 minutes time.  And they were all delicious.

I was definitely extremely satisfied after each meal.  I was never hungry and all the meals kept me satisfied for hours.  I feel like for someone really busy who needs help with portion control and what to eat, this would be a good service.

Here are some facts about Diet-to-Go:

  • It is the most inexpensive fresh diet delivery service on the market (doesn’t compare to nutrisystem because they don’t ship fresh meals, they ship meals that don’t have to be refrigerated).
  • Recently ranked #1 diet delivery company by Epicurious.
  • 3 unique menus (low-fat, vegetarian, and low-carb) and 20 plans to choose from.
  • There are no cancellation fees, no commitment or contract, and Diet-to-Go offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

And now for you, readers!  If you want to give Diet-to-Go a try, I have a coupon that will get you 20% off any meal plan if you’re interested.

It’s funny you pointed out the sodium content because that’s exactly what I was thinking! The meals definitely seem like great options for pre-made meals. It’s hard to escape those sodium contents with prepackaged food no matter what.

960 cals and 80 grams of fat?? I’m very surprised that was one of the meals. I’m not judging or saying what I think people should eat, but that seems a bit high for a healthy meal delivery company. Do you think you’d consider using this service on a weekly basis?

    • I agree it’s high. We were sent a sample of the meals for only 3 days, so I believe when you use the full plan the meals are much more balanced in comparison to one another. I likely wouldn’t use this service just because I like making my own food. But for someone who doesn’t know where to start or doesn’t have time, I think it could be a learning process and an aid. Also some people are scared of “diet” foods to lose weight, and I think this service dispels the idea that you have to eat lettuce to lose weight. Still, it wouldn’t be for me. I also don’t think meals on the vegetarian or low-fat menus would be so high in cals or fat.
